The print journalists are starting to feel their arses twitch. Their industry has been taking its last gasps for years. The digital age has well and truly pissed all over their chips. You have to question why the industry is not as revered as it once was
It’s simple. Journalism used to be about investigating, researching your subject, digging into a story, collecting evidence, presenting your findings. It’s not been about that for years. There are proper journalists out there but they’ve been silenced.
Why? Purely because the media (especially in this country) is controlled by a handful of moguls, tycoons, donors. They don’t want proper journalism to expose any of the cosy deals that take place behind closed doors. They don’t want their nefarious money hiding exploits revealed
Proper journalists would have ended their charade years ago. Had they been allowed to publish their findings that is. The Panama papers happened 4 years ago. Has anyone been properly held to account for their tax evasion? Nope.
Why? Because a vast number of people implicated: politicians, major companies, their owners, their CEOs, etc donate money to governments and their schemes. If the people are exposed and they aren’t allowed to hide their money. Their govt donations stop
Back to the journalists. There were columns and columns written about the Panama papers. Much like there have been journalists willing to expose any form of wrongdoing in the corridors of power. We don’t get to hear about them because their words are stopped from being released
If the words come out, the people exposed are removed (or should be) and there’s a power shift. What actually happens though, is the journalists have their wrists slapped and they’re sent to write for a shit rag in a tiny village talking about ethel’s courgettes winning 1st prize
Real journalists and real journalism has been dead for years. We’ve been in an era of celebrities and what they had for breakfast. The industry has been cheapened by sensationalism and the need to wear the same tracky bottoms as pop stars.
Any time a story is investigated properly (much like @city_rabin or @in_martian have been doing regarding uefa and ffp) a whole gaggle of print journalists circle the wagons and attack the people doing the job that they should be doing. It’s jealousy.
They’re jealous because they aren’t that good at their job and the story exposes their agenda for what it is. Sensationalist claptrap. A journalist admitted that they release negative city stories and positive LFC/MUFC stories because they generate more clicks
Their job is no longer about the truth. It is about populist click bait. I’m sure they didn’t have that in mind when they left home to go to university to study journalism.
When people write proper investigative online, and don’t have a platform to release it widely, it gets lost in the noise of the internet. If it doesn’t get lost but makes a ripple, it’s widely derided as conspiracy theory nonsense and the truth stays hidden. The writer gives up
They are now begging people to buy papers again? Why should we? The sensible people amongst us have been all too aware of the shite printed and haven’t bought a paper for years. We’ve known that their words are just wasted inches in a tired rag
The people power in not buying the s*n was down to their demonising of LFC fans after hillsboro. They didn’t print the truth because there was a cover up. There is still an ongoing cover up. Why has there been no exposure? Governments and media moguls won’t allow it
Until journalism gains credibility, and starts questioning those in power, it will struggle. Until it grows a pair and exposes the real issues at hand it will struggle. Those that own the press are the real reasons for its downfall. For not being true to journalism
