I can't think of a pun for Lightspeed Rescue, a phrase that continually confounds me
People really need to stop hiding demonic forces in tombs, some oblivious fucker is always going to release them on accident
The theme song rips
It's not as good as Galaxy, but it still rips
Apparently Lightspeed Rescue has just been monitoring the demons? That feels like it would cause some sort of existential crisis among the workers there
I like the fan theory that Lightspeed Rescue built their zords from the remnants of some of the older zords, especially cause they're so similar to some of the previous zords
Joel is a sky cowboy, so basically the coolest motherfucker ever to live
Fuck, mountain climbing gives me so much anxiety
Why does Chad get so much fanfare in the non-seaworld seaworld show? People are there to see the whales and shit
So far none of the people Lightspeed Rescue has recruited are rescue workers
Why not just call it Lightspeed Daredevils?
In the span of about 45 seconds we're introduced to 4 villains and their motivations
It's not comprehensive, but it gets the job done sorta? I guess?
I've already forgotten their names so
Underwater base is pretty fucking cool
lmao, Dana gives Joel the stink eye after he accidentally activates the alarm on the base
Why would they need a mountain climbing Ranger? Or a whale trainer Ranger?
I also don't understand why everyone gets informational packages on themselves. Surely Joel knows that he is a sky cowboy and thus the coolest motherfucker alive?
"These are your jackets, grab one." it sure is lucky they all picked the correct color
They have a big fuck off jeep instead of teleporters which makes sense
I like that even though Lightspeed has some how developed zords and ranger powers, they don't have like ALL the magic space technology
Of course they all know Kung Fu
I gotta say I don't love how quickly this is going. We don't get a sense of anyone's character before they're all just rangers
Even the original Mighty Morphin gave everyone at least one line of characterization before they got zapped over to Zordon, here they just go "What? What's going on? Where are you taking me?"
I love that Carter just tries to run the monster over with the jeep
"Rangers, use your morphers." How? You didn't teach them anything!!!
This is the first really elaborate morphing sequence, and it's pretty cool. I like how the liquid metal shields wrap around them
"There is a time to celebrate, but now is not it." Why tf not? They just destroyed a monster
"You see, now Diabolico knows you exist." Yeah, no fucking shit, that was going to happen regardless dude
Ms. Fairweather and Joel are pretty cute
I like that she's amused by him even though she sees right through him
Lotta 90s computers on the Aquabase
Ms. Fairweather's introduction to the other Rangers has the exact same energy as a video game tutorial
I like trains
Wow they're really just going into battle without Joel
Oh my god, they fucking moved a suspension bridge to allow the rail rescues to go into battle
Joel acquiesces pretty quickly to his orders
These first two episodes are moving way too quickly. I know you can't do the Lost Galaxy thing again and spread it out, but this is over correcting way too much
Like at this point Joel is the only one with a compelling personality and even then he's not like THAT much of a rule breaker, because they have to get through the plot really quickly
lmao, the zord just used it's ladder to punch a hole in a building
WHY DOES A RESCUE VEHICLE HAVE LASER WEAPONS????
I like the mix between CGI and models for the zords
I also love the team mocking Joel for striking out with Ms. Fairweather
I do not understand what the fuck Lightspeed is, it seems to be a secret government agency for rescue work? But why would that need to be secret? Is it cause of the demons? If so, why is it rescue work?
It just raises too many questions!!!
I do like that the megazord takes so long to assemble, it's like it doesn't have the same level of technology as the previous zords
This training makes no sense, Chad and Joel have to do an obstacle course, Kelsey and Dana have to save a baby and Carter just has to shoot a bunch of targets?
Of course that is actually fairly close to what they actually do, but what they actually do makes no sense!
I also like that all the power weapons form a vehicle like in Turbo
It makes no sense for them to have a jeep, they're underwater, but they have a jeep because this show rules
I feel like the military aesthetic SHOULD bug me in the same way cop protagonists should, but the realities of Operation Lightspeed are too confounding
Either way the Rangers need to disobey orders more often
I do like that the Rangers have a more contentious relationship with Operation Lightspeed, even if they don't actually disobey their orders
The militarization is unfortunate, but there's a grounded feel to the aesthetic which I like
Hell yeah, Carter is giving Mitchell an earful, I love this
I'm like 99% certain Carter has the same backstory as Galo Thymos
Calling it now, the firefighter who saved Carter is really Mitchell and that's going to lead to a lesson that sometimes you have to make sacrifices or whatever so that Carter won't be mad at Mitchell anymore
I like that earlier the fight had the theme song in a minor key
Yeah so the fire was going to hit gasoline which Mitchell didn't tell Carter, he just yelled at him to not save a kid
And the moral of the story is that being a leader is hard and requires making the tough calls
"I'm not sure I'm cut out to be a ranger." Well yeah you definitely aren't if you let one mistake get you down like this dude
