If we want to stop people going doomer mode we're going to need a meaningful answer to the question of what they're supposed to *do*. And I don't mean "be in X org, read X work", I mean giving people a real project and theory of change that can fill the role Bernie played.
Being real here: in the midst of a pandemic where the US ruling class has shown loud and clear they consider us disposable, Bernie has been the only hope many people had. A descent into nihilism is not an irrational response to this moment if there's no other option presented.
We don't *want* people to fall into nihilism, we want to organize them into action. But right now, they all just watched the only candidate who prioritized human life over profit leave the race-likely because his opponent prioritized *winning* over human life.
Most important thing we can do as DSA right now is give people a theory of change they can believe in, meaningful work they can connect to, goals that are concrete and believable, and a group of comrades that will help them take some control back over their lives.
(And then we can reveal we've secretly made them Leninists, as I did to @bittertransslut)
