Things are a bit grim so I’d like to share a small story about a piece of music for Untitled Goose Game that I don’t think anyone has heard before. I was thinking of keeping this to myself but… it’s a good time for nice things. A thread:
When I was making music for Push Me Pull You, the first game from @house_house_ I had an idea for a funny little naive waltz. I played it on my melodica and recorded it on my phone’s voice memo app, fumbling around as what was in my head made it awkwardly through my fingers.
I sent it through as a draft to House House, not really knowing where it could be used as we had most of the music for the game locked. But it just seemed to right for the game. Why not see.
Possibly months (?) later they said they had had an idea: they were going to use it on the operating system level menu for the PS4 release of the game, if that was alright by me. As is. No finessing, no rerecording. It was brilliant.
You can still hear it today on the PS4 - my original, one-shot, mistake-filled, fumbled voice memo recording. I still can’t believe we got away with it, but I can’t think of a more perfect fit for the game. You can hear it here, too. https://dangolding.bandcamp.com/track/waltz-for-house-house
Then last year when, again, I was basically done with my work on Untitled Goose Game, House House mentioned that they were wondering what music would go on the PS4 level menu.
Could I maybe… figure out a version of the same piece of music? But this time as Debussy would have written it? To fit with Untitled Goose Game's style, but also link it to Push Me Pull You in the subtlest way?
I could not have been more excited by the challenge of turning this totally naive, joyfully-childlike musical joke into something sophisticated.

Here’s the final result, which is what you’ll hear today if you go to Untitled Goose Game on PS4: https://open.spotify.com/track/3h9cTpayTJFhauEvU20Mw9?si=1N30of63SfiqMd_10CLt7A
