As a young lad I'd always desired the baptism of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues.
But I just wasn't receiving Him no matter how hard I prayed & fasted, maybe I wasn't "holy" enough for Him, so I thought..

My local church functioned in the prophetic & believed in the baptism of the Spirit. They preached that to receive Him, we'll have to wait for "Pentecost Night".
Weeks to Pentecost Night we'll repent, try to avoid sin & stay clean, because only "the pure in heart can see God".

On Pentecost Night, ministers would take turns to exhort the congregation, & then comes the "tarry" moment where an altar call is made to those who wants the baptism of the Spirit to come out.
First with powerful worship songs we'd sing & sing. Songs that touch the soul. Songs like,
"send down thy power, we pray thee o LORD, power of the Holy Ghost, we say Amen."
Now I feel emotional recounting this part
I remember praying & pleading earnestly in hot tears

And as we worshipped & prayed, the ministers will breathe on us & lay hands. Soon I'd hear those around me screaming & rolling on the floor, speaking in what was known as "heaven's language":
"Yes amen! Yes amen!"
That was the evidence that they've received the Holy Spirit.
"Yes amen! Yes amen!"

And it will go on all night till every last person is been prayed for. But the Spirit seemed not to hear my humble cry to "pass me not"

It seemed like the "gift" of the Spirit was for well-behaved children, for those who had walked worthy of Him.
It seemed like some reward for being a good Christian without blemish.
And for those of us not holy enough we received no "gift" from the Spirit

If I remember correctly, Pentecost Nights came once yearly, & that was after Easter (The Resurrection of Jesus Christ).
So that means if you missed the Spirit baptism, you'll have to wait till next year to get filled with the Holy Spirit.

Interestingly, come next Pentecost Night some of those who received Him will have to come out again because they lost the former one due to sin & unholy living

Later in 2004, some guys who came to our school to pray for us to receive the Spirit. I looked at it with an air of suspicion & cynicism because it wasn't time for "Pentecost" yet

Later I was invited to one of their services, hands were laid on me and I spoke in tongues.
I wasn't sure of what I was doing, deep down I doubted if it was the real one
Then one Teacher in my school said, "that one you people are speaking is the fake one, you're cursing God"

He continued, "can you interpret what you're saying?"
"No sir" I replied,
"Then you're mocking God" he said.
"In Acts 2" he continued, "they could interpret what they said in tongues, & in 1 Cor 14, it says if you have no interpreter keep quiet"

That discouraged me, who was even doubting in the first place before, & then I stopped. Like I said earlier, misinformation is more dangerous than ignorance.
And I believe many have been taken off the path on same notion & grounds, but it's all wrong. It's not true at all

Listen,this is for many out there still living with this primitive mindset that there's something you have to do to be worthy enough, holy enough in yourself before you can receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
Or you should wait for Pentecost night.

THE HOLY GHOST IS NOT PENTECOSTAL!
He didn't come because it was Pentecost night, He came when the fullness of time had come for Jesus to pour the promise of the Father, when it was time to fulfil the Joel 2:28 Prophecy (See Acts 2:33)

So you don't have to wait for Pentecost night! There's nothing like that with God. He has long come & you can receive Him right now!
There's nothing you can do of yourself to qualify. There's no such thing in scripture.

That's the testimony of the one sent to prepare the way for Jesus Christ. He came to tell us what to expect when Jesus comes: the baptism of the Holy Spirit & fire!

As ridiculous as it will be to say you're John's disciple & haven't been baptised of water, same also it is to say you're of Jesus Christ & haven't been baptized of the Holy Spirit.
The promise is FOR ALL who will come into Christ. It's for every believer in Christ.

As blameless as Jesus, He wasn't good enough to be a perfect sacrifice without the Holy Spirit. #RPN
It's a dead end trying to be holy & righteous before you can receive the Spirit.

Ignorance has been the problem, not sin

To receive the Holy Spirit is simply "Ask & you shall receive" (see Luke 11:9-13)

Hands doesn't necessarily have to be laid on you. Faith in Jesus is all you need. He is the baptizer!

Believe in Jesus to fill you with the Spirit right now, ask of your Heavenly Father, & He will do it with all readiness even before you finish saying those words! Halleluyah!
