So....

....my core business is not football. It should sail through #COVID19 period because I’ve learnt over the years that something always spoils good times and good times follow bad.

80% of my job is risk management, 20% is looking for potential growth opportunities.
To grow a business you need a stable base, it’s no good growing an area of your business if you’re not looking after the existing. You’re not growing in this instance, you’re replacing business.

To my staff I say, ‘I’m sat in the crows nest looking for icebergs years ahead’....
....because icebergs sink you.

That said, the only iceberg on the horizon was #brexit

With this in mind I’ll explain what I’m seeing. I’ll name other clubs as illustrative examples only so NO disrespect meant to them: it’s to make points only.

Anyhow....

New iceberg #COVID19
All I hear about from football leaders, newspapers, the media, the @FA @EFL @premierleague @PFA etc. is the need to finish this season.

I understand this. @SkyFootball and @UEFA are clowns for making threats to future income about this.

We don’t need added pressure to make...
....wrong decisions here.

All our players and staff are furloughed @ASFCofficial save 4 to keep some communication and grass cut.

There’s no hope of finishing this season any time soon, unless it’s behind closed doors.

But this is massively costly because to get back up and...
...running we’d have to un-furlough the club a month in advance and for the period until the season is finished.

Say 3 months for 50 folk. £375,000 alone. It does not include all the other costs of stadia, medical, police etc.

So to finish season £500k loss minimum with zero...
...income.

So...

...with this drain of cash in mind let’s look at next season....

For example only I split our income 3 equal ways. (Not far off for @ASFCofficial)

Matchday £800k
EFL distribution £800k
Prem solidarity £800k

This is the same for @SunderlandAFC except...
...match day might be £8m as opposed to 800k.

Match Day.

The @NHSuk are expecting another peak in #COVID19 after to one early May, to come around end Nov-Dec.
People when released will be caught by this virus, and the object is not to try to stop it. It is to try to manage...
...it at a level that the NHS can cope.

This is solid info and is common sense.

So even if we play next season, there is a major risk to match day income. This disproportionately affects Stewart Donald @SunderlandAFC because he’s got £8m to worry about, we’ve got £800k.
We both have costs from contracts and stadia we can do nothing about.

So match day income next season is under serious threat.

EFL distribution.

Two things here, IF we get next season off in reasonable order @SkyFootball may pay in full.

But even if we did so, we’ve had...
...part of next seasons distribution ALREADY in an attempt to keep the show on the road.

So, this income is already gone in full or in part from next season. The future is mortgaged.

Prem solidarity.

The show must go on and the season finished in undue haste because...
... @SkyFootball will withdraw funds and request £750m refund. I have no factual evidence on this, the @premierleague could be milking it for all I know, but it makes sense. I’ve paused my @SkyFootball account.

So this income is under threat and @premierleague has already...
...handed half of next seasons solidarity cash to @EFL £125m

It won’t last 2 minutes.

In summary.

Next season @ASFCofficial will be conservatively lucky to see half it’s normal income of £2.4m

@SunderlandAFC will be lucky to see half, but the costs are higher...
...Stewart’s loss will also be higher because half of his income next season is £4.8m not £1.2m @ASFCofficial

And @SunderlandAFC were already stretched as the vast majority of clubs are.

Stewart costs. Like ours are very difficult to address....

...I could raise money on...
...our stadium, but there’s NO WAY ON EARTH I would do this to our club.

So whilst everyone is focussed on finishing this season, we’re doomed in the medium term if we don’t find NEW funds to replace lost ones.

NOT loans or advances of future cash. But this gives us time to...
..panic.

For a club like @OfficialBWFC (and I speak with Sharon, I mean no ill) they’d be better throwing the towel in NOW.

What’s the point in them spending a few million£ keeping the show on the road a bit longer, when the road runs out next season???

Conclusion.

I know..
...we need to finish this season, but I need a proper steer on NEXT SEASON or I’m stupid wasting all the clubs reserves to finish the competition @EFL

I’d be better to wind the club up now saving £2m and having that strength to restart AFTER #COVID19

You’re burning our club..
...to finish this season.

You’re killing @ASFCofficial if you’re not careful.

Tell me you understand that and tell me what you’re doing for NEXT season so I can plan please.
Good morning BTW.
