I don’t know why Super Metroid is trending right now, but this is the PERFECT opportunity for me to gush about it, because it is seriously one of my top 3 favorite video games of all time. It’s such a good game. (1/?)

I first played Super Metroid back when I bought my SNES Classic. I didn’t really know what I was getting myself into with the SNES classic, I mostly just wanted an excuse to play earthbound (another phenomenal game)

Anyways, after getting a bit frustrated with Earthbound, I decided to take a break to play something else. And upon scrolling through the games, I found myself gravitating towards Super Metroid.

I’d never played a Metroid game before so I’m not really sure WHY this game stuck out to me, but it did. I booted it up, with no expectations, and began playing. I fell in love.

The opening scene of that game is a masterpiece of gaming. The part where the ship is exploding and the whole screen tilts back and fourth have me chills. Everything about this game builds atmosphere masterfully and I love it.

I played through the whole game in one weekend (I remember it being over spring break). And then, as soon as I finished, I played through it AGAIN to get 100%. And THEN, I played through it a THIRD time! Just cause!

In total, I’ve beaten this game WELL over 10 times, and hard only in the past YEAR! I tend to replay games a lot, but the only other game that I’ve beaten more times is Super Mario 64, and only because I used to speedrun it. This game will bring me joy for years to come.

So yea. If you have a switch with Nintendo Switch Online and haven’t given Super Metroid a shot, I implore you to. It’s not a perfect game (I’m looking at you Maridia) but it’s pretty damn close. Love that game. Glad it’s trending. End of thread.
