You know what I’ve realized? People love to say how Michael “straightened his hair to look more white” and talk about his appearance during the bad era but let’s not forget how everybody wanted looser curls in the early 80s not just Michael
The “Jheri Curl” was created by Jheri Redding which created the appearance of looser curls on natural hair. Michael may have popularized the style but every black person during the time whether they were were in the main stream media or not rocked the style in various lengths
The slander that Michael recieved about his hair from bad to then on was unnecessary because he was just following the current hair trends. His hair during bad era was just a longer Jheri Curl mullet plus black women in the 90s was also straightening their hair and wearing wigs
All the black celebrities that have straighten hair, relaxed or laced with weave/wigs are they trying to look white? Does that make them any less black? No it doesn’t and the same applies to Michael Jackson. His hair stylist that he’s had since 1986 was a black woman
Just because Michael wore make up, hair extensions and androgynous clothing and overall did not fit the stereotype of what a black man “should” be he still deserves respect and should be recognized for not only his blackness but attributes to the black community
Show a local this thread when comments on Michael’s hair as a result of “anti-blackness” arise.Instead of worrying about Michael Jackson they should worry about the paternity of their own children and stop claiming racially ambiguous and blackfishing celebs ✨
