...for starters, the Hulk’s character was very inconsistent across his first 6-issues. He starts out as gray and only transforms at night, next iss Hulk is green, next iss Bruce is stuck as a mindless Hulk during the day controlled by Rick Jones commands...
...and by issue #4 Banner requires a gamma ray machine to transform back-and-forth into the Hulk. This constant state of flux and inconsistency eventually resulted in HULK’s solo title being canceled after 6-issues before being given a 2nd chance at life in TALES TO ASTONISH...
...and putting aside the inconsistencies, Hulk’s easily adventures are still very fun enjoyable, as effectively establish Bruce’s inner torment, his supporting cast with Rick Jones, Betty Ross & General Ross, and have some genuinely scary and profound moments...
...but they’re also simultaneously incredibly cheesy, but in that fun goofy Silver Age way! For instance you not only have bullcrap weapons like the Soviet Gargoyle’s mind-controlling pellet gun & the alien Toad Men detecting Banner’s high IQ via a “Magnetic Mind Detector”...
...but you also got Rick Jones being able to control a mindless Hulk because he touched a switch who’s signal was connected to a rocket imprisoning the Hulk thar was traveling through a cosmic radiation belt...
...and my absolute favorite example of Silver Age goofiness on display is the Soviets faking an alien invasion in order to capture the Hulk by dressing up as a space gladiator wanting to challenge “Earth’s strongest warrior...”
...plus, the Hulk was a bit of a psychopath in these early Stan Lee comics, as he repeatedly states his intentions to conquer the world and destroy all of mankind.

I guess the Ol’ Jolly Green Giant was more monster than man in his inception...
...regardless, these early INCREDIBLE HULK stories, while inconsistent and incredibly silly, are still a ton of fun and I love ‘em!

Also, how do Hulk and Rick not die instantly after getting a face full of volcanic gas, and how does exercising keep you from gaining more muscles?
