I have been thinking quite a bit about Trump's initial, and unceasing, spruiking of untested & unverified treatments for COVID-19 and I have a shortish thread with a theory. ENJOY! 😊/1
#TrumpPlague #COVIDăƒŒ19 #hydroxychloriquine
We should always start with the $$$ when it comes to Trump & his extended crime family & assorted cronies.
But I think the very PUBLIC, and persistent, nature of Trump's pleas about treatments centred on hydroxychloroquine indicate something well beyond straight-forward grift. /2
Without getting too close to be sucked into its infinite & soul-destroying blackness, lets try & see this from Trump's perspective.
He should know that he needs a miracle to recover from the appalling collective federal response to this crisis. /3
A relatively inexpensive treatment could be that miracle.
But treatments for a virus that the world had not seen until a few months ago take time - time for discovery, clinical trials, development of safety protocols, etc. /4
Trump does not have the time for these scientific & safety niceties. He has a re-election to win in November if he hopes to keep himself out of prison.
So, how do you collapse the time required to approve a treatment for COVID-19? /5
One way would be for hundreds, or perhaps thousands, of patients & their doctors to try the treatment before the lengthy scientific & clinical processes are finished.
In effect, you kick off a rapid unsupervised & de-centralised trial by fire for the treatments. /6
But how on Earth would you get so many patients & doctors to try something with potentially serious risk & side-effects?
Well, if you had a base of deeply loyal supporters & you had a prominent public podium (say a daily national address just for argument's sake) . . . /7
Well, you know the rest.
And given its unsupervised, de-centralised structure & very pro-Trump bias, this 'trial' would likely only report the successes (loudly & repeatedly throughout right-wing media) & hide/ignore any negative outcomes. /8
Trump is desperate for a miracle to save his presidency & that can only happen with an accelerated (and unethical, dangerous, etc.) trial of an existing treatment for a related disease.
Apologies to anyone & everyone who may have proposed this idea already. /end
