Love how in TFA Luke’s lightsaber calls to Rey, then literally chooses her in the forest & she then wields it successfully for two films, wins basically every battle & rescues the entire Resistance at the end of TLJ. But at the beginning of TROS she suddenly needs to ‘earn’ it?
Also love that how Maz got Luke’s saber, the ‘story for another time’ set up in TFA, just never got answered. Maz was RIGHT THERE at the Rebel Base in TROS, that story could have been used so effectively as part of the plot. How do you not even use stuff from your own film???
In TFA Leia literally says “You think I wanna forget him? I want him back” about Ben. But TROS rlly said “nah babe you’re gonna get him stabbed & then you’re both gonna die without ever seeing each other again & reconciling, soz about it.”
I get they were restricted by the Leia footage. But they could have like had her chest suddenly take a breath under the sheet when Ben turned to the light? And then he goes to her quarters on the rebel base at the end & says ‘Mom?’ & we just hear Leia’s voice say ‘Ben’? COME ON!
Leia senses something when Ben kills Han & she senses Luke’s death in TLJ. Han isn’t force sensitive so what she’s sensing in TFA is Ben. She’s sensing his powerful regret, she’s sensing the light in him. I don’t rlly get why she senses Ben in TROS on the Death Star? Thoughts?
Ben has Rey on her knees & we’re led to believe he’s possibly about to kill her & Leia reaches out to him via the force to stop him, which I don’t believe for a second bc his only motive the whole film is to get Rey to join him. So why/what does Leia sense in Ben at that moment?
The moment where Ben says “Han Solo can’t save you” & punches himself in his wound just kills me. He’s talking to himself, self-harming, punishing himself for killing Han & trying to suppress his emotions with pain. It’s so heartbreaking.

Remember when JJ worked w a good writer?
TFA is a solid film. The editing & pacing are good & there are some wonderful bits of writing. Yes the plot is not v original but it successfully sets up the new characters w their core concerns & a solid foundation of intriguing questions to be answered by the rest of the ST...
It overall feels self-assured. All of which only makes TROS all the more baffling. They're worlds apart. The bad writing can be explained but the editing/pacing is so different even tho one of the editors was the same. It's literally like they suddenly forgot how to make films???
