being an essential worker during this pandemic is scary

thread
This morning at 6:30 i walked into my office (used to be broom closet), that i share w 2 other ppl. Im putting my fanny pack down, getting on my phone bc imma work when imma work. Im scrolling thru Twitter w my coworkers talking amongst themselves nd all of a sudden this bitch
wanted to mention that my managers gf had a fever. i stop scrolling thru twitter eeeemmeeediatley. I exit the thru the ONE exit we got nd said aight imma go get my mask, so while im walking to get my mask, I was also fumbling to w my phone to call my mommy cause she always kno
what to say. i call my mom nd told her that my coworker& #39;s been around sum ppl w fever nd she told me to let my managers kno nd that she& #39;s otw to give me an n95 mask, my mf ANGEL. So I go back in, i tell my coworker i feel uncomfortable working w him knowing he& #39;s possibly been
around c-19 symptoms. He said "i don& #39;t kno what u want me to do hun" nd i told him leave lmao. He said he couldn& #39;t bc OUR MANAGER ALREADY KNEW. im like hol up hol up hol up, how long they& #39;ve been knew? nd he said "since monday" calmly nd matter of factly. Nd i said what else did
they say? "Just monitor my symptoms nd if sumn comes up not to call in". so nOT ONLY HAVE I BEEN W SOMEONE THAT HAS BEEN LIVINGGGG W PPL THAT HAVE HAD FEVERS, I& #39;VE BEEN W THIS FOR 2 DAYSSSS...so i try to calm down, im like ok dude, well seeing as i have asthma this shi ain& #39;t
sitting right w me. I call up the store manager he& #39;s not answering, I call up the co-store manager nd after 3 missed calls he FINALLY responds. I go im not tryna bother u while ur off however, ive been informed that my coworker has been around ppl w c-19 symptoms nd my manager
goes "yea i kno" , nd im like ok well? nd he says "i told him to monitor his symptoms see where it goes" SEE WHERE IT GOES?? im having this 5 min discussion abt y tf we should not be seeing where it goes bc he is putting so many lives at risk, not only mine but countless of ppl
seeing as we& #39;re a grocery store. nd towards the end of the convo between me nd my manager, he says "im going to call my supervisor" nd hangs up. While i wait for this man to call his supervisor my still possibly infected coworker is chillin in the office watching yt vids, im out
side tryna not have a panic attack bc i could be bringing this bitch ass disease home to my mom w heart problems, nd my lil sis who& #39;s got MAJOR underlying conditions. My phone rings, my hearts skips a beat, nd it& #39;s the co-manager again. He tells me that his supervisor said
If I feel uncomfortable then I should leave. I look at my phone confused af abt the sentence that came out this man& #39;s face. uncomfortable? uncomfoRTABLE??? bitch at which point has someone used that word to describe how they feel abt covid-19. I said so u& #39;d rather a healthy
worker, someone who has not been LIVING w these symptoms to go home than send the person who could be infecting HUNDREDS just bc u "wanted to see where it goes?", im like nonononono, what we& #39;re not gonna do is make it seem like im overreacting. I continue this convo w him until
He says "alright i don& #39;t kno what u want me to do , im just going by what my supervisor says" nd then hangs up. Im sitting there w my two coworkers astonished that they dgaf, they truly, absolutely do not give a fuck. at the end of all This, my coworker who has been around
the ppl that have the c-19 symptoms, pretends to be sick so they don& #39;t send the two of us who dont have it home. At the end of this, not my manager, my manager& #39;s manager, or even supervisor gaf abt their employees health or the health of our customers, it was put into our hands
to make the decision for 2 healthy ppl to leave for "comfort" or the 1 person to leave nd possibly all 3 of us get fired. my coworker nd i stayed bc 1 person wouldn& #39;t be able to handle the workload nd the guy decided to leave bc it& #39;s better to put others health before ur own.
Ig my message at the end of this thread, when u go out don& #39;t assume businesses r gonna look out for u as their customers. Wash your hands. Stay inside. Only go out for essentials, please. Businesses don& #39;t care abt ur safety, so look out for urself nd others when u can.
