An explanation for why extreme bodybuilding physiques in men or extreme curves in women might still be advantageous (even if disliked by most people) is that the demand curve for these traits is shifted to the right of the supply curve, which has big effects at the right tail.
I said something roughly similar here, but in a simplified and more concrete version. https://twitter.com/JohnSanilac/status/1241579644974821378
So, interestingly enough, the fact that extreme bodybuilding physiques look bad to most people is not a guarantee that they're actually a bad idea for the people who can achieve them (though they still might be, depending on what the actual demand is).
Since I know many of my readers are interested in Hayek I am sure they will understand this argument perfectly. https://twitter.com/yungneocon/status/1210830421862125569
