If elected President of the Texas College Democrats, I will ensure that our organization gives 30 in-need College Democrats from Texas $100.

I’ve wanted to release numerous platform points over the past month for my TCD Presidential campaign but have avoided doing so out of fear of coming off as disingenuous. There are so many more important things happening in the world than a mere election in a college political org
Our communities are truly suffering. And millions of college students across our great country are among the hardest hit. Students, who struggled to make ends meet on their own beforehand, are among the over 10 million who have lost their jobs due to the pandemic.
Students, who paid tuition, have been forced to adjust to online learning and many have not been given even a partial refund for services they will not receive.
Students, who paid to live in dorms for what should have been an experiential staple of college, were forced out and displaced without a refund.
Students, who were already fighting to keep the lights on in small, dilapidated apartments are still forced to pay rent by greedy landlords.
Students, who a month ago were learning to become adults, are now being forced to take care of parents, grandparents, and siblings in a perverse reversal of roles.
And that doesn’t even account for the students who have sick family members or friends and must suffer through intense emotional trauma.
Our government has failed students and young people. By not allowing 18-24 year olds who are still listed as dependents to see a mere CENT of the promised $1,200 (which is a joke within itself) most who are suffering will receive no aid.
We are Democrats. We are supposed to be the party of the people. We are supposed to believe that all people who live in this country are entitled to the American Dream and that power structures must do whatever is possible to help people achieve that dream.
TCD is obviously a miniscule organization compared to the federal government. But unlike the Trump Administration or Governor Abbott, we believe in taking real action to ensure the care of our constituency.
That is why if I am elected President on April 25th, I will organize need-based sponsorships of $100 each for thirty members suffering in the midst of this great crisis.
We are a small outfit and we don’t have much money. But if even just $100 can be made into something for a single member of our TCD family, I’ll be goddamned if I don’t stretch every single connection our organization has so that we can provide that little bit of help.
Even if our leaders don’t have our backs, the American people never give up. The stories of people coming together in this crisis have been incredibly moving.
And even if I’m just a kid sitting home, I’m willing to fight for my community and for someone I don’t know. If elected, I promise that TCD would do more for its membership in this crisis than our own federal government. (END of thread)
