If you want to combat fascism, its important to know how liberal ideology lays the groundwork for fascism.

(I'm using liberal here in the classical sense, not as in liberal vs conservative. Conservatives follow liberal ideology too.)
The classical liberal triplet is: liberty, equality, and property.

However, as Samir Amin describes in 'Eurocentrism', there is an "insoluble conflict between possession of capitalist property and the development of equality between human beings."
Therefore, "...reason can only delete the third term of the triplet and substitute for it the term fraternity [national community]."

Fascism attempts to resolve class conflict inherent in capitalism with class collaboration by uniting along nationality/race.
But "collaboration" in an unequal system means subversion those who control the means of production. Worker's power is stripped away. Unions are banned. Dialectics are substituted for metaphysics.
Fascism in many ways is capitalism with the veil lifted. The dictatorship of the bourgeoisie becomes literal. The press dominated by corporations becomes controlled by them. Bourgeois freedoms are reversed.
Capitalism functions best when the nature and extent of coercion is disguised as is the case with representative democracy. However, fascism can be used as a tool in times of crisis in capitalism to redirect the frustrations of disgruntled worker away from the ruling class.
Never settle for class collaboration. As Assata Shakur said, we will never get our freedom by appealing to the moral sense of the people who were oppressing us. Tension pushes us forward. Believing nothing will change only benefits the oppressors.
