My brother asked me to get him some pine resin and I was hoping being out in nature would help with my mood. But this is all I found and not feeling any better. I checked four trees, gonna have to venture a little farther this weekend
In an effort to get my mind off of today's news I decided to go out a little further on the property to collect some pine resin for my little brother. I thought I'd make a little thread about what it is and what he's using it for.

Oh, and I had some foraging juice with me

I want to start off by saying I'm not a botanist, I know a little about trees from my undergrad. But I love them and I really enjoy foraging and learning about what can be done with hand gathered products.

This is a red cedar from our field, one of my fav trees.

When I was little we'd play in the big pines & get covered in clear sticky gunk, it stuck good and it didn't come off. We called it sap, but its also called resin or pitch.
Its produced by pine trees, and other plants, when they're injured.
This pic has fresh resin drips

Resins are pretty useful because they dont break down in water and they harden in the air.
This tree has some dried resin from an older wound, it has kind of turned a cream color and isnt transparent anymore

A lot of natural healing sites sell pine resin salves to heal cuts and wounds or rashes.
This one claims its a gift from god that heals wounds and infection.
A lot of these sites claim it heals but does it?

Maybe? I have found a few recent studies, its not the main point of this thread so I'm not gonna go too deep into it. But a 2012 clinical pilot thought it was successful in wound healing in 23 patients.
