Someone I consider a bestfriend lost their immediate family member to COVID-19 and I wanted to make a thread about populations that have been: forgotten, impacted and/or ignored.
I hope that everyone can take the time out to read one of these tweets in order to spread awareness for individuals who have no "voice" on this platform to convince others to stay home.
Homeless population:
Jokes surrounding "crackheads" not dropping dead due to their more than likely exposure to COVID-19 is not funny. Those individuals are people. With family members and friends who are terrified to know that the imminent threat to their lives have increased.
Homeless population:
Although I understand that many of you are extremely bored, take a beat to be thankful that you have a roof over your head because many homeless individuals would love to be bored and protected from the environments right now.
Non-profits are being impacted by the restrictions recommended by the Gov. Meaning homeless/transient individuals within ur community are being impacted negatively. In other words: hours of operation, number of staff, beds and food accessibility aren't functioning as normal.
Lets move onto how the Hospitals are being impacted (The Mental Health Units specifically):

Guests who need their families and friends support more than ever have been restricted from seeing these individuals in person in order to prevent an outbreak occuring within these units.
Hospitals (The Mental Health Units Specifically):
Practicum students have been released and placements have been put on hold as a precautionary measure; which means less support is available for those within the mental health units.
Mental health crisises do not stop, and many institutions are dependent on students in order to increase the chances of individuals being supported properly while in hospital.
Besides emotional support, family is often who advocates for loved ones. Restrictions lower the chances of clients who are experiencing an episode from receiving adequate service; due to the inability for family to observe their behaviour & "fill in the gaps" for professionals.
Counselling Services:
Many therapists have moved from in person sessions to Zoom. Although this an alternative, this is not the norm & those who are unable to connect in this manner (i.e can't access the software) will most likely begin to suffer in silence ..
Correctional facilities:
Many institutions across Canada are no longer allowing inmates visitations in order to prevent and/lower outbreaks from occurring. Due to this decision many families who already had limited amount of access to one another have even less.
I know many assume everyone in these facilities "deserve to suffer" but regardless of your opinion towards them, they're families do not.
(Nor do I agree with the quotations)
With all this said, I want to remind everyone that: outreach workers, counsellors, social workers, lawyers and police officers and every other individual whom works in close capacity with vulnerable individuals are human.
The longer COVID-19 presents a threat to them, the more likely they are going to attend work distracted and worried; which in turn impacts their ability to properly support those in desperate need.
