i really don't want to complain like this abt something so trivial but if the person that made that shoplifting comic was white then that explains a lot
Black people that are convicted of shoplifting face harsher sentencing the US because of the racist criminal justice system that punishes misdemeanors so harshly (a la reconstruction era practices)

some companies enforce strict policies that can get employees fired if they try to directly stop shoplifting, but if they don't carry out proper procedures (filing an exact report and giving it to a manager, like at Victoria's Secret) they will also be fired
so maybe consider that the vast amount of retail workers are poor, of those workers Black & Latinx people are disproportionately living below the poverty line, and they can absolutely be fired because of your actions. they matter first
when you shoplift unnecessary items, ones that you might easily afford, you are putting people's jobs at risk and hurting them. not to mention that if you're white you're using your privilege to avoid harsher sentencing as well as racial profiling
this thread is not “corporate bootlicking.” i don’t give a shit about company losses. what i care about is that shoplifting for the thrill of it is an embarrassing display of white privilege. you’re less likely to be charged, and as a worker less likely to be hurt by being fired
robin hood is awesome because he represents redistribution of wealth. as a white person, stealing because you want to and you know you won’t face repercussions is a racist act, plain and simple. and you don’t need to be a poc to understand this
