Theatre streaming.

Y'all. Come on.

Is it the same as the live event, NO.

Does it have it's own value? Can it connect to new audiences? Does it offer art to those who can't get it? YES.

Now what if we don't think of them as the same thing at all. Complimentary, distinct.
This is not a shocking developing to stream live events either. Hello, ALL OF SPORTS EVERYWHERE.

What can streaming do? Give a version of theatre to those who are sick, don't live near theaters, can't afford to go to some/many shows, can't get off work or afford the childcare.
I think of myself with tiny infants, when I was alone, craving my theatre community, up at weird hours. You know what would have given me such hope and heart? If I could have streamed a play from my local theater when I was nursing at 3am by myself.
Hell y'all, I want to be a subscriber of every major theater in this nation. I could if I could stream their shows. Maybe not all of them, maybe not every theater, but this is a new way to engage and experience this art form.

More art the better!
Do we need to interrogate this idea to make sure it actually supports artists and doesn't take advantage of anyone? Yes.

Can we continue to reinvent live theatre to make it more equitable and open for all? YES HELL YES.

I am on the Stream Team. Give me your theatre. Always.
