GRIS is both better and worst than I expected.
It's way more clever than a lot of its counterparts.
Despite being one of those hit or miss indie games that are way more interested in being pretty than an actual game, GRIS does pull off some really good tricks. I did make me feel something through interaction.
The art style didn't do much for me. It's what call "magical white girl with pink nose art". It's not subtle nor interesting to look at. It's too white for me.
I'm not a crazy person. Of course the game is very pretty. But that's a problem. Even when the main character confronts a goo monster that's obviously a metaphor for her inner struggles, we are greeted with gorgeous animation. Even the bad part of her journey is glamorous.
Despite me saying at the beginning of this thread that GRIS has a lot of clever tricks, they aren't enough.
While the devs did design some levels to have fun and unexpected moments, the game overall struggles to create tension.
