I voted for @DrJillStein in 2016. I then decided to get involved in the @GreenPartyUS. The latter was the worst decision I ever made. https://twitter.com/jdcmedlock/status/1247946925338316800
I volunteered for a Green Party candidate who had a decent shot winning a two person race and the party did NOTHING to support him (and yes, he did lose). Once I realized that the Green Party did nothing except run a media campaign every 4 years, that's when I ditched #DemExit.
Meanwhile, I saw how @BrandNew535 and @justicedems were recruiting bold progressives to run as Democrats. I figured most of them would have a hard time winning but after hearing the candidates' stories and seeing how we had nothing to lose supporting them, I decided to #DemEnter.
I knew about the candidates featured in #KnockDownTheHouse before the Documentary ever came out. @paulajean2020 was fighting to stop corporations from running WV to the ground. @CoriBush was fighting to improve working class and communities of color in St. Louis.
@amy4thepeople was fighting so people would never have to experience what she went though with her daughter (who died because the hospital refused to treat her without proving she had heath insurance, which she didn't have on hand).
And @AOC was fighting to prove that even if you were just a bartender, you can still hold the most establishment politicians accountable. And she won. And while Amy, Cori, and Paula fell short, they have impacted American politics in ways we will only realize 5-10 years from now.
Also, I should note that @paulajean2020 and @CoriBush are running again this year SO PLEASE SUPPORT THEM. Go here ( https://paulajean.com/ ) and here ( https://coribush.org/ ) to see how you can help their campaigns and we can expand the Squad even more!
Looking back, it's amazing how I basically left the Democratic Party at the beginning of Trump's term (even though I never changed my registration) to being elected to the Democratic State Committee now. While changing the party is difficult, it isn't impossible.
Bottom line: fight to transform the Democratic Party. Don't make the mistake I made and get involved in a party that could care less about candidates who aren't running for President.
