Our heart is heavy today. Today @BernieSanders announced the suspension of his campaign.

Many of us came to Sunrise because of Bernie. In 2016, he asked for a political revolution, so we became political revolutionaries.

Our generation knows that we need change.
And it’s not only Sunrise Movement. @Dreamdefenders, @UNITEDWEDREAM, @AMarch4OurLives, and so many more youth movements have risen in the last four years. Our generation felt the urgency of this moment and rose to it.

That’s why many of us feel such pain now.
But this was always bigger than @BernieSanders. Movements didn’t start with Bernie. To get personal, I came to Sunrise from my background w/ #BlackLivesMatter . I believe in movements. Only movements build the relationships and community necessary to grow power for the long haul.
And this movement doesn't end with @BernieSanders. Now, more than ever, we need that sense of purpose. That community. That love. Our generation must be a movement generation. We must overthrow the unjust systems that foster inequality, stoke bigotry, and dehumanize us all.
Our generation lives with the weight of the climate crisis. It looms in our future.

It’s not just about climate change. It’s not just about coronavirus. It’s certainly not just about @BernieSanders.

It's not even just about policies like the #GreenNewDeal or #MedicareforAll.
It's about fighting for one critical value: there are no disposable people, and there are no disposable communities.

Nobody should be abandoned to the climate crisis. Nobody should be sacrificed to coronavirus for the sake of our economy.

We are all in this together.
With such deep injustice in our future (and present), it can be easy to sink into hopelessness and despair.

For everybody in our movement, Sunrise has been an emotional anchor, keeping us optimistic and motivated.

But so many of our friends right now are living with that pain.
It is up to us to bring them into our community, to share our love, our hope and our sense of purpose with as many other young people as we can.

That is what Bernie means when he says, #NotMeUs

We have to bring our generation together in a society-wide fight for justice.
Tomorrow, we will be holding a mass call—one different from anything we’ve ever done before.

We have to set the example of love and support for all of our friends. We have to fight for hope and optimism, not fear and cynicism.

So we’re asking you to do something unprecedented.
Join the mass call tomorrow, and bring your roommates, your siblings, your friends. Bring everybody you know who is hurting and looking for hope and direction. We need each other.

Together, we can lift each other up. Together we can win.
