Today, as #Fulbright scholars are still securing insurance, unemployment and housing after our grants were unexpectedly terminated, Fulbright informed us that the only accomodation they are making for current grantees is waiving the two year year waiting period to reapply.
If scholars wish to finish their projects, they will need to reapply for a grant they have already received, and which they may not receive a second time, and uproot their lives a second time a year and a half from now, after uprooting them this year ended in disaster.
My work is intertwined with the Holocaust. Fulbright's mission resonates with me. But a line on my CV won't write my poetry, or share the perspective I have gained translating Yiddish poetry, or my insights about the legacies of the Holocaust and Inquisition in Greece and Spain.
