If you look to artists for anything more than their art and see them as Idols, then you deserve whatever they give you.

Because there has to be a lot wrong with you for you to abandon better choices and end up worshipping people just because they made a good song or are on TV

You have low standards and will be treated accordingly.

You are automatically below whatever you have made an idol. You can't rise above it.

If you pick a suitably high quality idol, you will rise to meet it.

If you pick a low quality idol, you will sink to be properly positioned for worship.
