There’s a rumor going around that one of the workers at the local post office died of coronavirus.

Everything about this rumor is incredibly dangerous.
First off, there’s no way to confirm or deny this rumor. Right now, this information is coming from the spouse of someone else who works at the post office, but there’s no name released (for the sake of privacy) and there’s no confirmation of a death from the virus in the area.
The virus is dangerous and should be taken seriously, and my heart goes out to the victims and their families, but if this turns out to be false, then this person is responsible for spreading misinformation and fearmongering.
If this is true and the worker was still there up until late last week, then there’s a chance that the virus could’ve been spread to hundreds of other people, including myself.
However, every time I’ve had to go in recently, nearly everyone in the building was wearing a mask and/or gloves and maintaining their distance. I’ve been wearing a mask in public for a couple weeks now.
But all of this aside, I stop at the post office almost every day for work-related stuff (though I haven’t been going much since this started), so there’s a high chance that I knew the worker, even just in passing.
This goes to show just how dangerous it is for essential workers right now since they are constantly at risk of coming into contact with the virus. Every single one of them deserves hazard pay and a raise.
This thread is very messy, I’m sorry. It’s a lot to take in right now.
