Let’s explore how to audit your competitions top performing keywords and outrank them today!

Let’s pretend we're a CRM startup, we’re going to use @SEMrush as our tool and @hubspot as our competitor.

I <3 hubspot, but here’s how i’d use their content engine as fuel.

A THREAD
1. We need to add HS to SEMrush & filter by “blog.”

This allows us to focus our efforts onto only their blog content.

Now, let’s figure out which product feature for our CRM startup we want to drive free trials for:

I got it, Sales Forecasting...
2. We filter for the kw “forecasting” and “pos: Top 10”

This let’s us find all the posts HS ranks for in the top 10 around forecasting.

We find that HS is ranking for ALOT of forecasting kw’s...but w/ only one page 💡💡💡

Good job @hubspot but we’re coming for you.
3. We choose our favorite terms and begin creating content

We now know that we can become a better answer to each of these specific questions if we answer them individually.

By thoroughly answering each term w/ a unique piece of content we can have an advantage.
4. Rinse and Repeat

Now we have a process for auditing our competitors blog we can start to identify new keywords around product features we have a competitive advantage for, create a better piece of content, outrank them, and use product feature driven CTAs to increase MQLs!
