when people think they're coming up with aus and tropes that I've known and loved for years? I love that. love seeing new people in fandom reinventing the wheel and walking down the same paths I've adored this whole time. makes me feel warm.
they have a lot of good times ahead of them. if you see someone going "oh my god but what if there was Only One Bed" and writing about it like they've rediscovered sliced bread, good for them. there's so much joy in that. I'm grateful to be there when they share it
on the same vein it makes me sad when the same people really Get Into It and read all the fics and get to know their new fandom better and suddenly think everything has been done before and nothing of theirs is new - it's not where the appeal is I promise you!
it might have been at first, for you. it might have been what drew you to a new pairing because suddenly they inspired all of these ideas into your head - what if they were roommates, or childhood friends, or centaurs - and it was so exciting! but that's the honeymoon phase
but loving a pairing or a fandom is more than being excited for something new. I've been into kiribaku for years, hell I've been a fandom writer for the best part of the last decade, and every time I see a There Was Only One Bed fic I lose it.
loving content and content creators in this space is not only about novelty. if you write yet another There Was Only One Bed fic I will lose it all over again. that's where the magic is. that's the long run. the trope might be old, but your writing of it is new to me.
