Seeing a lot of flack for the PL every time a report comes out about plans for restarting the season, most of these criticisms are misplaced and unfair imo

Like any other business that is not already totally wiped out by COVID, the PL has to make tentative plans for its eventual return- not least because the situation is enormously complicated. It would be totally idiotic for them to twiddle their thumbs until this thing is over.

There are going to be headlines featuring what appear to be whacky ideas which will be derided. But this situation, by nature, requires an absolutely revolutionary response. Whatever eventually happens will be a product of blue sky thinking.

If you’ve ever been in a meeting where no proposal is off the table and you need ‘blue sky thinking’ you’ve certainly heard and said things that would look stupid if taken in isolation as a headline. This is an unprecedented challenge that needs an unprecedented response.

The PL isn’t saying it’s more important than people’s health by opening an ongoing dialogue about what the restart might look like when it eventually happens. It would be extraordinarily dim for them to do anything else.

A lot of people, understandably, don’t really care atm given the situation, which is totally fine. But the PL can’t take that attitude anymore than any other business. Nobody is being forced to read the reportage if they don’t want to.
