Crap. The Oversight Committee says the strategic national stockpile is depleted, it was doled out with little strategic concern, and states are depending largely on private markets now. Maloney statement:
"HHS staff stated that the Trump Admin has made its final shipments of personal protective equipment to states from the Strategic National Stockpile, accounting for 90% of the stockpile’s inventory of N95 respirators, surgical and face masks, face shields, gowns, and gloves."
Distribution of PPE was NOT strategic, per Oversight. States got at least 3 shipments, most NOT based on states’ requests. First shipments were pro rata based on 2010 Census. Third one—labeled 'final push'—not based on population. (TX and VT each got 120,900 respirators)
Last, feds let chaos continue. Admin staff confirmed the feds are NOT taking control of supplies flown in with “Project Airbridge” or directing private suppliers to send goods to hospitals with urgent needs. Instead, suppliers agree to sell half to customers in “hotspots” like NY
Here's a question for the WH briefing later: Why are we hearing about the depletion of the Strategic National Stockpile from the Oversight Committee, nearly a week after the fact, not the administration? Will the WH ever take charge?
