Holy shit I just read something that blew my mind lmao (thread)

In 1955, the DFB banned women's football in Germany. The ban was lifted in 1970, but an official national team was only established in 1982. The reason why a national team was formed is fucking ridiculous.
In 1980, some dude working for the DFB spent time in Taiwan with Eintracht Frankfurt's youth team. During that stay, he accepted an invitation to the women's world cup on behalf of the DFB. (it wasn't an official WC, those only started in 91).
But the DFB didn't have a NT so to avoid humiliation they sent reigning champions Bergisch Gladbach to the world cup and passed it off as a German national team. Gladbach scored 25 goals and won the WC. Following that success the DFB was like "yeah we should probably have a WNT"
