ok so my absolute favourite topic: how to deal with acne even though you’re in your mid twenties and was on roaccutane but had to come off it as it triggered off your suicidal thoughts, if this is you then boy i have an amazing thread for you!
Anywho before I go into details, I just wanna say I only suffer now during my periods, otherwise my skin is 97% free (most of the times). Acne is a lot of factors: genetics being the biggest. As well as hormones, diet (to an extent) and just general bad luck
roccutane pretty much cleared up my whole skin. Side effects: dry skin, sensitive to light, SUPER SUICIDAL. I had to come off it as I was almost at my tipping point and my dermatologist was like 😬 nope no more for u
I pretty much control my diet religiously. I don’t eat dairy products (although I love cheese so much- I will expect a breakout and consequences the next day), sugar and processed foods are also out the question, and tbh eating more clean made me feel healthier and happier
1: salicylic acid is the best thing ever. Paula’s Choice BHA is my favourite. It’s non-irritating, helps with the redness and also exfoliates deeper within the skin. I’d 100% recommend to everyone, regardless of skin type. Chemical exfoliation is life changing
2. To help with any hyperpigmentation I’ve been using the bodyshop drops of light resurfacing peel (every other night) and I’ve notice drastic difference in my skin tone (I’d also recommend the daily serum)
3: the Ordinary AHA + BHA peel (the red one) use one a week, and honestly it’s just AMAZING. I couldn’t recommend something enough. Although I’d say not to use it for longer than 7minutes as it’s super potent
4: Masks. I have so many masks. I literally use a mask every night 🤣 some of my favourites: goldfaden md facial detox, Paula’s choice skin balancing mask, any kinda korean sheetmasks aimed at brightening the skin
5. moisturiser: I never noticed the difference an average moisturiser and an AMAZING moisturiser makes until I used embryolisse lait-creme concentre, I 100% recommend.
6. Sunscreen, and the only one I’d recommend is la roche posay anthelios XL. Every other one I’ve tried has either been too sticky or heavy
I’ve tried most of the ordinary skin care line and the only things I’d recommend are the aha + bha peel, Granactive Retinoid 5% in Squalane, multipeptide serum for hair and alpha lipoic acid (life changer!!!!!)
I also dermaplane and microneedle my skin (myself) but only when I don’t have active breakouts and maybe once a month as I don’t tend to use make up and avoid direct sunlight 48 hours after microneedling
