The post-Bernie/post-Corbyn left have similar questions to ask themselves about their organising principles. Neither managed to build a big enough tent and both succumbed to purity politics over coalition building.
Both were led by crotchety old geezers for whom too much personal brand loyalty was built sometimes at the expense of loyalty to a larger politics.
But both brought followings with extraordinary energy especially among young people. How can that be built on in a sustainable, transferable way that doesn’t invest hope in a person leaving an important movement too fragile?
If they manage that - & rid themselves of the cranks that cause a lot of the problems - they’ll have a chance to be in a powerful position. But that will take extraordinary levels of self awareness and self critique. That’s hard in private & these discussions won’t be private.
