Why is “zeal” only used in relation to new converts?

We’re in a time where it’s become the norm to loose your zeal, hunger, and fire for God as you “age” in the faith.
In order to justify the loss of our passion we lie to ourselves by calling it “wisdom” and “maturity”.

Wisdom/maturity teach us how to properly administrate our zeal for God. They do not water it down.
Deep down inside you know the intensity of your prayer and worship sessions have died down.

And the desire for intimacy with Jesus that you once sought so passionately has disappeared, leaving you ever comfortable in your current position.
In order to make yourself feel good, you say things like:

“I don’t need a long prayer for God to hear me.”

“I don’t have to talk about Jesus a lot. I’m still saved.”

“I don’t have to act “perfect”.”

And you don’t.

But you don’t WANT too either.
And that’s the issue.
Now when we see a new convert we subconsciously say “ahh I remember when I was there. Just wait til life hits them”.

Knowing deep down inside we envy them for having what we’ve lost. But we’re too prideful to go to God for restoration.
Oftentimes a hardened heart, shame, pride, complacency and anger (towards God) are the things which cause our passion for Him to die down over time.

As we go through life we find it hard to reconcile the love of God with our pains. Thus causing us to no longer depend on Him.
If this is you, remember where you once were. Repent. You have sin in your heart.

Tell God to heal you.
To restore your passion.

God delights in our restoration. He takes joy and pleasure in our intimacy with Him.
I pray that you get to a place where your passion for God is restored. That you once again delight in communion with Him; no longer neglecting Him.

“Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works...” Rev 2:5
