The political message from the defeat of the progressive Left in the Uk and USA is that Liberals on both sides will not let a genuine Left candidate into power as a national leader. The national media, a largely Right or Lib C/R dominated ownership, facilitates this for them.
So for progressive voters the UK's Labour Party and the US's Democratic Party are now essentially Liberal Democratic parties, and the Green Party is the only remaining closest option on the ballot.
So what to do for prog voters? 1st, prog voters must now refuse to vote Democrat in the US Pres. elections unless Biden confirms a clear promise to institute full M4A universal healthcare. That's the bottom line. In the UK, boycott LP altogether, work with ACORN or Greens.
Yes there are those who want to remain in the LP to keep pressure from within. I will not criticise that position. ATST Starmer's party cannot complain the prog Left vote isn't coming out for them b/c they did not come out behind a Left party leadership, & instead sabotaged it.
It was the current leadership of the party which decided that a Johnson govt would be a better alternative to a Corbyn one. At every election until 2024, the Left should reciprocate in kind: briefing & campaigning against Tories and Labour, and for Green / Ind.
This is the harsh reality of the FPTP electoral systems in the UK and the Primary and delegates system in the USA. Only by giving your vote to someone other than Dem or GOP, or LP/CP/LD in the UK, can these parties come to feel the impact of disregarding and sneering at the Left.
O/c one answer here would be "Go ahead, there aren't many of you and you can vote for other parties but they still won't win." Perhaps. ATST it only takes a little as a dozen votes for Labour to lose in marginals. The Left need the LP to understand only they can win 100+ seats.
And the only way to demonstrate that would be for the Left to organise on a constituency basis, form their own bottom up structure but coordinate nationally, and ensure that Labour lose marginals by a clear protest vote going to Green or (non conservative) Independent candidates.
These local groups shld also work to gain Labour voters & encourage them to switch, building up a narrative of Labour vote hollowing out that's creating more marginals. Demonstrate it at every local election until 2024. Send Starmer a clear message: without our policies you lose.
Because that's where we are. The Establishment clearly won't allow a genuinely Left candidate to win power. So Power, even with all it's institutional advantages and an entire media complex reinforcing it, needs to be reminded of the power of the ballot box. That's democracy.
