When i was a kid i grew up in a town along the canadian border with its own canadian variant of the city. everyone would act so holier than thou about canada not being great or not having what america was. you know what my town was. it was a tourist trap.
it sucked in people and their money and never let them out. it had a rez and you could see the divide between the rez and city but both sides just wanted to watch the world burn. nothing was ever done to really help the town.
either you had tension competing between america vs canada or you had local infighting between the local gvmt vs. the tribe. The whole states gvmt was seen as corrupt and it to most of its cities power structures being just as corrupt. this isn't something from a long time ago.
This is still happening. I went back on my honeymoon with my spouse over the summer and the city was still filled with the same level of contempt and pointless animosity as it was when my family moved to iowa. hating canada and the canadian city because it was prospering
while the american city that had existed since the 1600s citizens were forced to live lives stuck in place and told about how awful the canadian side had to be when they were coming to the american side to do anything.
i look at the sorry state of affairs today and its like nothing has changed. I'm still frustrated at people that think the system is working for people that deserve it to. Corrupt gvmt officials perpetuating this cycle and im sick of it.
My spouse needs healthcare. My friends, my family, myself, and people all over america need healthcare. When I was a kid my parents worked in healthcare in the same city i mentioned before. I heard stories of people preferring to the canadian side for healthcare
because at least it wouldnt suck them dry and leave them fending for scraps in a dead end town they could never get out of. I've known people who were born on the canadian side because their parents wouldn't have a kid here if they didnt have to. It was smart. Its sad but smart.
and honestly im at a loss of what to say or do because im not the only person being failed by the system. we're still experiencing sexism, racism, ableism, ageism, etc like we're not in the year 2020 and like we havent had 45 presidents who are supposed to make america better
this thread was a mess but the point of it was supposed to be that we in america are no better than anyone from any country and the only people that want you to believe it are the people that are going to benefit from saying it.
