I wish mothers who are quick to advise their daughters to keep up with cheating partners would also be honest enough to tell them the number of STIs they had to treat in order to “keep” their marriage.

We always hear “he sleeps around but at least he still comes home to me” but we never hear about how many times they visited the doctor because they had an itch, or how their bodies became resistant to antibiotics because they’d had more than enough, or how they ended up on ARVs.

They should also tell their daughters how many times they had to beg their husband’s mistresses to abort pregnancies so they won’t bring “shame” upon their marriage, how many times they had to pay them off, how many fights they fought - the ones they won and the ones they lost.
