What is the explanation behind the Turing principle (a universal computing device can simulate every physical process)?

Why should we inclined to reject a theory which does not uphold the Turing principle?
The only explanation I can think of is that the capacity to simulate the consequences of any possible physical law must be implied by the physical law itself. But why?

Thanks for helping me understand! :)
