Responding to the financial package announced by the Chancellor today, Peter Lewis @piterk68, CEO of Chartered Institute of Fundraising said:

Today’s announcement of a £750m funding package to help charities maintain their vital services and respond to the coronavirus crisis 1/7
is a welcome first step. It will help to provide much-needed immediate support to many charities providing essential services around the UK. 2/7
It is, however, far lower than the £4 billion charities are predicting in lost income in the months to come, and is therefore unlikely to be enough to safeguard many essential services. 3/7
We believe charities have a key role to play in getting us through this crisis and appropriate financial support from the government, alongside fundraised income, will be critical in the weeks and months ahead. 4/7
We will continue to track the impact of the crisis on our members and the services they provide and will continue to share our insight with government as to where there are gaps in income are, and where services are under threat. 5/7
The fundraising community has responded with passion, skill, and creativity at this most challenging of times and we will continue to support our members to deliver excellent fundraising that continues to inspire the British public to give generously. 6/7
We welcome the government’s commitment to match the generosity of the British public on the #TheBigNightIn, and look forward to a great night of fun and fundraising on 23 April. 7/7
