I was introduced to a whole new world when I came to cookman. When ppl ended up in squats shaking their ass and shit I was like
Somebody called me a jitt ( if I spelled it wrong idc ) and I swear I was about to turn tf up. Idk I just thought it was a bad thing https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="😂" title="Face with tears of joy" aria-label="Emoji: Face with tears of joy">
It was also the first time I heard the term “ punk or fish “ lol
It was also the first time I actually noticed that I have an accent . Ppl used me as an experiment . “ say floor “ “ say dance “ “ say muva “
Ppl also kept telling me I come off aggressive . Like no, this is just how I talk.
Whenever it was time to yell out where everyone was from... my DC got drowned out by “DUVAL” and everywhere else ... every single time. I also thought DUVAL was a gang at first https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="😂" title="Face with tears of joy" aria-label="Emoji: Face with tears of joy"> I was so mad I left the hood to come to college to a gang man
The weather would hit 65 degrees and I would see hats and shit . Ppl wanted any reason to bring out some uggs too. I was just shocked by everything but I did love the experience
The music definitely caught me off guard. I thought one song was on fast forward but I realized it was done on purpose. I was just amazed by everything and intrigued to see the word outside of SE DC.
I also realized ppl from other places touch each other more .. like in casual conversation. don’t fuckin touch me lmao. https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="😭" title="Loudly crying face" aria-label="Emoji: Loudly crying face">
I also learned that it wasn’t normal to have a metal detector in a high school. I really thought every public school had it https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="😭" title="Loudly crying face" aria-label="Emoji: Loudly crying face">https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="😭" title="Loudly crying face" aria-label="Emoji: Loudly crying face">
I also learned that lingo could be the same but used differently. “ he was pressed “ I’m like.. why was he excited ?? Lmao then I leaned that it meant to be mad https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="😂" title="Face with tears of joy" aria-label="Emoji: Face with tears of joy">https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="😂" title="Face with tears of joy" aria-label="Emoji: Face with tears of joy">
I was depressed though when I first got to Cookman. I was alone , away from home , and I wasn’t used to such a slow paced environment
Cookman showed me that there’s a dance to every song!! Like whether the song was slow or fast.. there was a dance to it
The talent at Cookman was unmatched . The dancers, models, actors / actresses , singers , and writers were just mind blowing .. still is
Cookman also humbled me. “ oh so I can’t dance frfr? Cool.” https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="😭" title="Loudly crying face" aria-label="Emoji: Loudly crying face">https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="😂" title="Face with tears of joy" aria-label="Emoji: Face with tears of joy">
I never saw Greeks before I came to Cookman either. Seeing everyone together had me like “ oh, y’all love it here frfr “
I love Cookman. The ppl, the cultures , the ups and the down... through all of it . I love Cookman
