Here’s my Hot Take on Bernie Sanders: He won’t be the President. He won’t be the Democratic nominee. But his revolution is upon us because of a deadly virus. (Thread)
2. The country has already dramatically expanded the social safety net, more generous unemployment benefits. Is that really temporary?
3. How do you pay for that? A Sanders’ advisor is a proponent of Modern Monetary Theory: allow the central bank to print money to buy the debt the country is running up. Spend freely. That is happening now. The Fed is essentially monetizing the debt buying Treasuries.
4. We can all see that many Americans need better routine health care. We’re witnessing the devastating effect of this virus on people with heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes.
5. The people who deliver our Amazon packages, stock store shelves, ring up our groceries and work on the front lines protecting our health and safety every day ALL deserve to make more money. That list of professions is long and growing by the day.
6. Who doesn’t deserve what they’ve got? The rich folks, celebrities who dashed off to their mountain manses, beach compounds, yachts only to share cringeworthy photos + videos deep from their cocoons of obliviousness? Their clueless antics scream: Raise my taxes, take my wealth.
Bernie Sanders is out of the race. But his ideas, policies could run wild. This country could head in a direction some people aren’t expecting. My observations. Discuss.
