I made a Table on the striking differences in COVID deaths in 6 countries
1) Case fatality rate differences partly explained by testing frequency: except Italy— reflects overwhelmed system?
2) Deaths/million: likely reflects extent of spread in a country @PSampathkumarMD @choo_ek

If you look at New York State as a country, deaths per million are at 319, which is similar to Spain and Italy; and case fatality rate is 4.4% higher than US overall, but they are also getting 41% tests come positive compared to half the US overall rate.
Data I used were from https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ this morning

These are the 6 countries with the most number of COVID patients. The CFR in Diamond Princess was 1.5%. Germany is at 1.9%. South Korea is 1.9%
Somewhere in that range is where I think the true CFR is among symptomatic patients who get best care.

I recognize that numbers are affected by where we are on the slope. Our rates in the US can worsen. And the hope is that with new information and meds things will improve. Time will tell.
