Rishi Sunak has reiterated the plan to complete Brexit on January 1st. This is insane and criminal. I would call it treason. The 2018 impact assessments showed the damage Brexit would do. This will be hugely greater if inflicted on an economy still reeling from Covid-19.

Not only will our economy still be enfeebled by coronavirus, so will most of our export markets. International travel is still likely to be limited. International and even domestic tourism may barely exist. Governments in many countries will be struggling with budget deficits.

The 2018 impact assessments showed a brutal impact on a relatively healthy economy operating in a reasonably healthy and smoothly functioning world economy. Neither of those two assumptions will be true in January 2021. We are heading towards disaster.
