In the space of nine days the ExcEl Centre in East London has been transformed into the NHS Nightingale Hospital, opened to treat COVID-19 patients this week.

Col Ash is CO 256 City of London Fd Hosp and military lead for project in turning it into a temporary hospital with initial capacity of 500 but with expansion plans to 4000, if required, which would make it the largest hospital in the UK.

Due to be leaving the Army this summer after 27 years service Londoner and avid @MillwallFC supporter Colonel Ash recently told LBC Radio that he had carried out two tours of Iraq and one of Afghanistan, yet describes this as the greatest mission of his career.

He added "I'm from London, have friends/family in London and people and soldiers working here are from London. It is very personal, it cannot be anything else.
"It focuses the mind. Everyone is pulling together with one common purpose. You are saving people's lives."
