Today, Bernie suspended his campaign. The first thing that went through my mind was "Bernie& #39;s out. Biden is the nominee. Four more years of Trump." But we genuinely cannot afford to think like that, and make it a reality by virtue of giving up.
Make no mistake: Biden is a terrible candidate, a terrible person, a rapist, a racist, and at this point we& #39;re just running less funny trump against trump.
I honestly don& #39;t blame anyone for not voting for Biden because, let& #39;s face it, "the less bad rapist" is not a good platform. But let& #39;s consider a few things we learned from this process: Bernie moved the Dems farther left than they were ever going to get on their own.
Bernie organized a movement of working class people of color all around the country with more enthusiasm than any politician in history. Bernie has done more in his life time fighting against injustice than anyone else in office. This matters.
His push for real change doesn& #39;t go away even if a campaign ends. Just as important, we really need to start thinking about the reality of things because we& #39;re all dying right now, and the planet has only so much time left.
We need to remember that pushing someone left is easier than stopping someone from going further right. We need to remember that real issues like climate change matter, so even if we don& #39;t get all our policies, we can do things that& #39;ll work towards the changes that matter.
Solutions that aren& #39;t perfect are not an excuse for making things worse by doing nothing. If you spent this time campaigning for Bernie, don& #39;t give up hope. Be realistic about what our goals were this whole time.
Keep pushing dems to the left, keep organizing, keep making changes that will have real impacts on people& #39;s lives. Bernie is not the figure head directing meaningless energy, he& #39;s going to keep fighting for people& #39;s well being. So we need to do the same.
Honestly, yeah. Fuck Nancy Polesi for egging trump on for years and doing literally nothing of value but shallow gif poses. Fuck Warren for betraying anything resembling a progressive platform.
Fuck Obama for handing this to Biden & doing nothing for 8yr, making all of us even more jaded. Fuck Biden for causing the student debt crisis we& #39;re in right now. This whole thing is a nightmare & liberal talking points about how cool pandering is can go straight to hell.
But... we can say all that and still try to engage with meaningful change.
At this point, we& #39;re fighting for mere survival so let& #39;s stop acting like we have the luxury of shit posting about no ideal solution, and let& #39;s instead keep the spirit and action of an organized political revolution alive. What does that look like?
Help people. Vote locally, have real conversations with people about issues that matter instead of meme trading. Learn to approach people from where they are so we can better understand and move them to where they need to be. Work. Hard.
