Hey y’all! So there’s been a lot (and I mean A LOT) of misinformation about 5G, radiation in general, and how any of it pertains to the #coronavirus #COVID19. There is NO correlation and I wanted to give a bare bones explanation as to why.
Bear with me because this will not be brief but you’ll see why I included each part. ☺️
I’m focusing mostly on the radiation aspect, as that is in my wheelhouse. I am not a virologist but I can safely say that radiation does not cause viruses. Radiation is loosely defined as “energy traveling through space” that’s it. There are many definable different types-
For example, putting your hand near a fire, you will feel the heat. That’s thermal energy radiating. Even though the Sun is a huge source of ultraviolet radiation, it is low-energy and known as “non-ionizing radiation”.
When you hear the term “radiation” that is nearly always shorthand referring to a category of radiation known as “ionizing radiation“ (IR) or rad that is high enough energy to produce ions. Ions are atoms or molecules that have loss or gained an electron, giving them charge.
We know that most atoms have the same number of protons, neutrons, (and electrons). These atoms are stable. They’re good. They’re chillin! There are some atoms that have a different and unfavorable number of protons to neutrons or neutrons to protons.
When it’s too many/too little of either, they have this stored as excess energy. They’re “jittery”, so to speak. They want to release that energy and become stable like other atoms! They do so by emitting particles and rays. This is called radioactive decay. IR is the result.
When we discuss IR, our main focus is the biological effects of it. HOW exactly does it affect us? If your DNA is struck by this energy, it may be kill it and kill the cell. This is not too big of a deal, our cells die and we make more all the time. It also may impair the cell.
But DNA has its own repair mechanisms that usually work pretty well. It’ll fix itself and go on replicating. In rare occurrences, that DNA is hit and altered and keeps replicating. This is what we look at as cancer formation.
That’s one type of biological effect known as “probabilistic”. What’s the probability of this occurring, if you keep hitting these cells with energy. The other type of effect is called “deterministic”, ones that only occur when a LOT of IR energy is imparted in a short time.
Deterministic effects are ones like Acute Radiation Syndrome, like what happened with the victims INSIDE the Chernobyl power plant. “Radiation poisoning” from low-energy rad or low doses of high-energy rad IS NOT A THING.
Ionizing radiation is not a net evil. First, we’re exposed to radiation all day, everyday, in the form of “background radiation”. Half of which is naturally-occurring, the other half is manmade. The majority of your annual bg rad exposure comes from radon gas and CT scans.
I won’t go too deep into this on this thread but it’s important to understand that radiation is simply a part of life. You see the section labeled “internal”. You, yourself, are ever so slightly radioactive with K-40 and trace amounts of C-14 🙂
Medical applications of ionizing radiation are typically to diagnose issues within the body and to treat various cancers. Diagnostic imaging saves lives.
Ok, with some of the basics of radiation physics out the way. Let’s get to 5G (5th generation). It comes in the form of radio waves. To do all I mentioned above, the rad has to fall within the Red region below to produce those effects. Radio waves (RF) fall into the Blue region.
The longer the wavelength, the lower the energy and lower the frequency of these waves. Low energy passes through material without direct effects. The shorter the wavelength, the higher the frequency/higher the energy they have and can impart in a concentrated area.
Simply put, RF doesn’t produce enough energy. Nonionizing radiation (NIR) can be harmful in its own way but it still takes a large amount of it imparted at ONCE. What large amounts NIR does is produce thermal effects, heating up the cells, causing burns.
There have been countless studies on NIR POSSIBLY inducing cancer, none of which have come to a conclusive answer because it’s so difficult to try to factor out all other environmental factors and actually establish a positive correlation.
NOTE: “possible” and “probable” are two very different classifications.
As of 2011, the microwave portion of RF was declared “possibly carcinogenic” but even that is specifically for 1 or 2 types of brain cancer and that’s all, nothing else. A “better safe than sorry” classification that is constantly being investigated.
That is cell phone USE, NOT the towers themselves. The 5G towers are low frequency RF. The rates of cancer occurrence are in constant study and have NOT been found an increase to those who live near cell towers. The energy itself is emitted from the top of the tower. At the base,
Nearly none. These are the effects we observe from various portions of the electromagnetic spectrum. None of this includes virus formation or creation (not a thing at all). They barely include biological effects outside of special cases of cancer formation.
I hope that helps clear up some of the erroneous correlation of 5G towers going up to #coronavirus or any other illness, for that matter.
