I know not everyone is as pro-duck as me, but just... what are these, what are they doing and who is providing their hairdo coiffery?

It has come to my attention that all of the people calling these creatures grebes are not clarifying what genre of duck these are, but are in fact correcting me for putting them into the category of duck in the first place. I would like to apologise for my crimes against biology.
