Thread: The impact of Hate Crime on Grooming gang victims and our communities.

Tips for how to handle it 👇
We’ve ALL got an identity, and we’re all HATED by someone, because of that identity.

Some attacks are on multiple aspects of our identities, e.g. White, female, & non-Muslim.
In the UK a ‘Hate Crime’ is recorded when an actual CRIME is perceived to be motivated by hostility towards an aspect of your identity (race, gender, ability, sexuality, religion or lack of religion)
Hate Crime laws are precious, and we need them. They are there to protect us all from any crime that is unfairly directed at an aspect of our own identity.

Note: Hate Crime law is different to Hate Speech law and ‘Non-Crime Hate Crime’ law, which are unpopular & controversial.
Police are trained to have quicker response times to Hate Crimes, and courts can give longer sentences to criminals who commit these offences.
Some people say that ‘White people can’t experience racism’, but this is a MYTH.

Hate Crime law does not discriminate against any race, and anyone can experience racism.

Any public or private service that discriminates against any race can be prosecuted under Equality Law 2010.
THE IMPACT of Hate Crimes on victims:

▪️often receive more empathy
▪️often get blamed more
▪️more feelings of vulnerability
▪️more anger, anxiety, shame
▪️leads to pro-active behaviour
▪️avoidance and security concerns
▪️changing appearance
▪️retaliation or revenge attacks
LONGTERM EFFECTS on victims:

▪️Education
▪️Accomodation
▪️Health
▪️PTSD, depression, addiction
▪️Employment problems
▪️Financial
▪️Relationship problems
EFFECTS ON COMMUNITY:

Family members & others who share the same identity as the victim of the hate crime are also affected feel a community sense of ‘vicarious trauma’ or ‘shared suffering’.

This is the emotional residue of hearing about the pain, fear or terror of survivors.
SEEKING JUSTICE:

Perceptions of the criminal justice system are generally negative when people directly or indirectly experience hate crimes.

Younger victims are less likely to report hate crimes to the Police.

Some fear secondary victimisation by the Police.
SUPPORTING TARGETED COMMUNITIES:

▪️Agencies need to have more understanding of the impact of Hate Crimes, including on whites
▪️Hate Crimes need to be treated more seriously than other offences
▪️Police need to gather evidence
▪️Impact statements in court should reflect harms
TIPS FOR PREVENTION:

▪️Encourage recording of Hate Crimes against ALL identity groups, not just ‘minority groups’
▪️Education and social action to reduce the narratives driving Hate
▪️increase media awareness of anti-white, anti-Western Hate Crime (including sexual offences)
▪️Report media false information and denial of anti-Western hate crime (or anti-white racist attacks) to http://ipso.co.uk

▪️Report to your local services any legislation or action that discriminate against any identity group.

▪️Share stories and support your community.

P.S. I understand why you don’t want to like this thread. We’ve had Hate Crime laws used against us so many times. But please understand the only reason they’re unfit is that they’re not being used against our perpetrators!

Demand that they are!!
