Today, the Legislative Coordinating Council will meet at 2pm to review @GovLauraKelly’s executive order subjecting religious gatherings and funerals to the 10 persons and social distancing measures, which Missouri Governor @GovParsonMO did on March 21st. #ksleg
Within minutes of @GovLauraKelly’s announcement, it faced criticism from Senate President @SenatorWagle. In order to overturn the E.O, all 5 Republican leaders on the LCC would have to vote for it, should a motion arise. #ksleg
It was announced Monday that 25% of the community spread clusters in Kansas being followed stem from religious gatherings. In a difficult decision, amid Holy Week for many faiths, @GovLauraKelly limits places of worship to 10 people, social distancing. #ksleg
All of the religious institutions in House District 30 have gone to online, live-stream, video conference, or dial-in services. The Governor’s administration encourages all places of worship to do so, as well. #ksleg
We know that social distancing measures are saving lives around the globe. The claim that this is an ‘assault on Christianity,’ is short-sighted. It’s Passover, Easter, and we’re nearing Ramadan. COVID-19 knows no border, no faith. It’s destroying populations in its path. #ksleg
We must continue to enhance and strictly follow our social distancing guidelines. Stay home. Zoom or FaceTime our loved ones. Call those who you’re concerned about. And, connect with your place of worship online this year. I’ll help you figure out how to do so. #ksleg
Let’s be clear. If the LCC overturns the order #20-18, more people will become ill, and more people will die. Therefore, we must hold our #ksleg leadership accountable. I’m hopeful that they’ll understand the difficult decision and leave it in place, as they have so far. #ksleg
