If we in small arts organizations stop making, we cede the whole field to large institutions. This crisis is going to further push economic inequality, and there's a real danger of coming out the other side with an even more homogenized field.
And we've gotta keep making. We have staff that need to get paid, we have health insurance bills, we need to find ways to get money to artists.
So maybe a single cam archival recording isn't the best way to experience a show, but it's a way for the work to get seen by an even wider audience. It's a way to generate some money, even if just a little, for folx who could really use it.
And just maybe someone who really needs a particular work will get to experience it now, at this time, from a distant place, and it will be the thing that makes their day just enough better.
