One of the worst things about my cancer is that it’s so rare we don’t really understand how it works. Researchers can save more lives by studying more common cancers. So most of the time my doctors are flying blind.

That’s part of my underlying fear about COVID-19. I don’t want to be an early patient. If I’m going to get it, I want to get it when they KNOW whether ibuprofen or ventilators or chloro-whatsit help or not. I don’t want to hear “will this help? Who knows!” I’ve heard that enough.
So—in addition to health care workers risking their lives and researchers working feverishly to find treatments & vaccines—I’m grateful to everyone who has already had COVID-19. Because of what they learned from treating you, doctors will know better how to treat future patients.
